New Jersey Social Work CE Requirements

New Jersey’s CE requirements for social workers vary based on the license held:

• LCSWs are required to complete 40 hours of approved continuing education every 2 years
• LSWs are required to complete 30 hours of approved continuing education every 2 years
• CSWs are required to complete 20 hours of approved continuing education every 2 years

Yes! There are no restrictions on the number of hours New Jersey Social Workers (LCSW, LSW, or CSW) can complete through CE4Less – all required hours may be earned through CE4Less, regardless of license type.

CE4Less is approved by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) to provide continuing education.

New Jersey Social Work licenses must be renewed every 2 years by August 31st of even years.

Each 2-year renewal cycle, LCSWs must complete 20 hours in clinical practice. CE4Less clinical practice courses can be found here – be sure to select those with ASWB approval.

Each 2-year renewal cycle New Jersey Social Workers (all licensees) must complete:

• 5 hours in Ethics (see our courses in Ethics & Telemental Health and Ethics Boundary Issues)
• 3 hours in social and cultural competence
• 1 hour related to Prescription Opioid Education
