How many CEs does Michigan require?
Michigan social workers (LMSW and LBSW) are required to complete 45 hours of approved continuing education every 3 years.
Can I take my CEs from CE4Less?
Yes! Michigan social workers (LMSW and LBSW) can complete up to 22.5 hours of the total CE requirement during their 3-year licensing period through home-study courses.
Michigan accepts courses from any provider approved by the Association of Social Worker Boards (“ASWB”). CE4Less.com, provider #1115, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the ASWB as an Approved Continuing Education (“ACE”) provider. See our Accreditations page for additional details.

What else do I need to know?
Michigan social work licenses (LMSW and LBSW) must be renewed every three years by April 30.
Each renewal cycle, all Michigan social workers must complete:
- 5 hours in Ethics (CE4Less offers a number of ethics courses, including Ethics & Boundary Issues and Ethics & Telemental Health that may be used to satisfy this requirement)
- 2 hours in Pain & Pain Symptom Management
- 2 hours in Identifying Victims of Human Trafficking
Additionally, beginning in June 2022, in addition to the 45 hours of CE required for renewal, all Michigan social workers must complete 1 hour of implicit bias training each year (3 total during each renewal period). Michigan requires that this training be completed through a synchronous/interactive or asynchronous teleconference or webinar. Unfortunately, CE4Less does not yet offer a course that satisfies this requirement.
