Utah Counselor CE Requirements
Clinical Mental Health Counselors (CMHC)s are required to complete 40 hours of approved continuing education directly related to the licensee's professional practice every 2-year licensing period. These 40 hours shall include at least 6 hours in ethics of clinical practice, law or technology and 2 hours in suicide prevention.

How many CEs does Utah require?
Utah Counselors are required to complete 40 hours of approved continuing education every 2 years.
Can I take my CEs from CE4Less?
Yes! Utah Counselors may earn 10 hours through CE4Less.
CE4Less is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA), the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC), and NAADAC for continuing education.

What else do I need to know?
Utah Counselor licenses must be renewed every two years by September 30th of even years.
Each renewal Utah Counselors are required to complete:
- 6 in Ethics (See our courses in Ethics & Telemental Health and Ethics Boundary Issues)
- 2 in Suicide Prevention
