How many CEs does New Jersey require?
New Jersey’s CE requirements for social workers vary based on the license held:
- LCSWs are required to complete 40 hours of approved continuing education every 2 years
- LSWs are required to complete 30 hours of approved continuing education every 2 years
- CSWs are required to complete 20 hours of approved continuing education every 2 years
Can I take my CEs from CE4Less?

What else do I need to know?
New Jersey social work licenses must be renewed every 2 years by August 31st of even years.
Each 2-year renewal cycle, LCSWs must complete 20 hours in clinical practice. CE4Less clinical practice courses can be found here – be sure to select those with ASWB approval.

- Implicit Bias: Awareness and Management for Mental Health Professionals (3 hours)
- Affirmative Counseling for Transgender and Gender Diverse Clients (8 hours)
- 1 hour related to prescription opioid drug addiction (we do not currently offer an ASWB approved course on this topic)
