Oregon Requirements for Social Work License Renewal
Oregon social workers are required to complete approved continuing education every two years depending on license type. LCSWs must complete 40 hours every two years, LMSWs must complete 30 hours every two years. RBSWs are required to complete 20 hours every two years. CSWAs do not currently have a continuing education requirement. How many CEs does Oregon require?
Oregon’s CE requirements vary based on the license held:
- LCSWs are required to complete 40 hours of approved continuing education every 2 years
- LMSWs are required to complete 30 hours of approved continuing education every 2 years
- RBSWs are required to complete 20 hours of approved continuing education every 2 years
- CSWAs do not currently have a continuing education requirement
Can I take my CEs from CE4Less?

Oregon accepts courses from any provider approved by the Association of Social Worker Boards (“ASWB”). What else do I need to know?
Oregon social work licenses (LCSW, LMSW, RBSW, and CSWA) must be renewed every 2 years by the last day of the month in which they were initially issued.
Each renewal period, all Oregon LCSWs, LMSWs, and RBSWs must complete courses in (i) ethics, (ii) cultural competence, (iii) and suicide risk assessment, treatment, and management (links here are to our available courses on the topic – see below for specific course recommendations). CE4Less offers courses that satisfy all of these requirements. Hours earned in these topics above the requirements listed above may be applied to a licensee’s overall CE hour requirement.
Similar to the variance between licenses in total hours required, the number of hours in each of the topics varies based on the license held (see below).
