What else do I need to know?
Massachusetts social work licenses (LICSW, LCSW, LSW, and LSWA) must be renewed by every 2 years by the licensee’s birthdate.
All Massachusetts social workers must complete board-approved domestic violence and sexual violence training during each 2-year licensing period. Massachusetts offers this training for free (available here).
For all license renewals beginning September 28, 2023, Massachusetts social workers, regardless of license type, must also complete:
- 2 hours in Anti-Racism, and
- 1 hour in Anti-Discrimination
One course can meet both of these requirements, but the course must be at least 3 hours. CE4Less courses that meet these requirements are:
- Culture and the Psychosocial Implications of Socioeconomic Position Part 1: Culture and Social Determinants of Health
- Culture and the Psychosocial Implications of Socioeconomic Position Part 3. Social Determinants of Health: Policy and Community Interventions
- Implicit Bias: Awareness and Management for Mental Health Professionals
Up to 25% of the total required continuing education credit for any license type may be earned through courses that have been approved for other professions, provided they are (i) approved by (or offered by a provider approved by) the American Psychological Association (“APA”), National Board for Certified Counselors (“NBCC”), Board of Nursing Home Administrators (“NHA”), American Nurses Credentialing Center (“ANCC”) or the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (“ACCME”), and (ii) contribute to the professional competence of the licensee. CE4Less is approved by the ASWB, APA, and NBCC (see our Accreditations page for more information). ANCC-approved courses are also available through NurseCE4Less.com.
