Texas Social Work CE Requirements

Texas social workers (LBSW, LCSW, LMSW, LMSW-AP) are required to complete 30 hours of approved continuing education every 2 years.

Yes! There are no restrictions on the number of hours Texas social workers can complete through CE4Less – all 30 hours may be earned through CE4Less.

CE4Less is approved by the Association of State Social Work Boards (ASWB), American Psychological Association (APA), and National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) and NAADAC. For more information, you can review the Texas Administrative Code, Title 22 Part 34 Chapter 781 Subchapter C Rule 781.501 for the complete requirements for continuing education.

Texas social work licenses (LBSW, LCSW, LMSW, LMSW-AP) must be renewed every 2 years by the last day of the birth month of the licensee.

Each renewal cycle, Texas social workers (regardless of license type) must complete:

• 6 hours in Ethics (CE4Less offers a number of ethics courses that may be used to satisfy this requirement, including Ethics & Boundary Issues and Ethics & Telemental Health)
• 3 hours in Cultural Competency or Diversity (courses that meet this requirement are Intimate Partner Violence in Culturally Diverse Groups & Special Populations and our 3-part series on Culture & the Psychosocial Implications of Socioeconomic Position)

Hours earned in excess of the minimums above may be applied towards the overall CE requirement.

Social workers who provide direct patient care are required to complete an HHSC-approved course in human trafficking (CE4Less does not currently offer an HHSC-approved human trafficking course). https://learn.unboundnow.org/products/courses/medical-professionals

Social workers who have supervisory authority are required to complete 6 hours in Supervision for each renewal. CE4Less offers a number of supervision courses that may be used to satisfy this requirement.
