Illinois Social Work CE Requirements

Illinois social workers (LSW and LCSW) are required to complete 30 hours of approved continuing education every 2 years.

Yes! There are no restrictions on the number of hours Illinois Social Workers can complete through CE4Less – all 30 hours may be earned through CE4Less.

Illinois Social Work licenses (LSW and LCSW) must be renewed by November 30th of each odd year.

During each 2-year renewal period, Illinois social workers must complete:

• 3 hours in Ethics (See our courses in Ethics & Telemental Health and Ethics & Boundary Issues)
• 3 hours in Cultural Competence (for a full listing of all available cultural competence courses, see here)
• 1 hour in Implicit Bias
• 1 hour in Sexual Harassment Prevention
• 1 hour in Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Dementias (once every 3 renewal periods)
• 6 hours in Clinical Supervision (this is a one-time requirement)
