Minnesota Social Work CE Requirements
How many hours of CE credit does Minnesota require for social workers?
Minnesota social workers (LICSW, LISW, LGSW, and LSW) are required to complete 40 hours of approved continuing education every 2 years.
Can I take my CE from CE4Less?
Yes! STATE social workers (LICSW, LISW, LGSW, and LSW) can complete up to 20 hours of the total CE requirement during their 2-year licensing period through independent learning courses.
Minnesota accepts courses from any provider approved by the Association of Social Worker Boards (“ASWB”). CE4Less.com, provider #1115, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the ASWB as an Approved Continuing Education (“ACE”) provider. See our Accreditations page for additional details.
Minnesota accepts our courses for CE credit. CE4Less’ courses count for independent learning credit.
NOTE: For licenses issued prior to September 1, 2022 that expire before September 1, 2023, all 40 hours may be earned through independent learning courses for the current renewal only.  See here for additional details.
Our Unlimited Plan is a great option for social workers who want to satisfy their independent learning-eligible continuing education requirements for one low price! Check out our options here.
What else do I need to know?
Minnesota social work licenses (LICSW, LISW, LGSW, and LSW) must be renewed by every 2 years by the last day of the licensee’s birth month.
Each renewal cycle, all Minnesota social workers (regardless of license type) must complete:
- 2 hours in Ethics (CE4Less offers a number of ethics courses that may be used to satisfy this requirement, including Ethics & Boundary Issues and Ethics & Telemental Health)
- 4 hours in Cultural Responsiveness (CE4Less offers a course in Intimate Partner Violence in Culturally Diverse Groups & Special Populations that satisfies this requirement)
Additionally, certain license types and roles in Minnesota have further requirements:
- LICSWs are required to complete 12 hours in clinical content in each renewal cycle. (See here for a listing of CE4Less clinical content that may be used to satisfy this requirement)
- Licensing Supervisors are required to complete 6 hours in supervision content in each renewal cycle. (See here for a listing of CE4Less’ available supervision courses)
