How many hours of CE credit does Iowa require for social workers?
Iowa social workers (LISW, LMSW, and LBSW) are required to complete 27 hours of approved continuing education every 2 years.
Can I take my CEs from CE4Less?
Yes! There are no restrictions on the number of hours Iowa social workers can complete through CE4Less – all 27 hours may be earned through CE4Less.
Iowa accepts courses from any provider approved by the Association of State Social Worker Boards (“ASWB”). CE4Less, provider #1115, is approved by the ASWB to offer social work continuing education. Iowa accepts our courses for CE credit. CE4Less’ courses count as independent study.

What else do I need to know?
Iowa social work licenses must be renewed by December 31st of each even year.
Iowa social workers (LISW, LMSW, and LBSW) must complete at least 3 hours in ethics education during each 2-year licensing period. CE4Less offers a number of ethics courses that may be used to satisfy this requirement, including our Ethics & Boundary Issues and Ethics & Telemental Health courses. A full listing of available ethics courses is available here.
For licensees who are in independent supervisory roles, Iowa requires 3 hours in the topic of supervision during each 2-year renewal period. CE4Less offers a number of supervision courses – click here to see our available courses and choose one that fits your particular interests and practice area! This requirement is part of the overall 27-hour requirement, not in addition to it.
Licensees should retain learning materials for 3 years for audit purposes.
