Texas Substance Abuse Counselor CE Requirements

Texas Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors are required to complete 24 hours of continuing education for LCDCs with Masters or Advanced degree and 40 hours of continuing education for LCDCs without a master’s degree every 2 years.

Yes! There are no restrictions on the number of hours TX LCDCs can complete through CE4Less – all 24 Masters or Advanced/40 without Masters hours may be earned through CE4Less.

CE4less is approved by NAADAC for continuing education.

Texas LCDC licenses must be renewed every two years by licensure date.

Each renewal Texas LCDCs must complete:

• 3 hours in Ethics (See our courses in Ethics & Telemental Health and Ethics Boundary Issues)
• 6 hours in HIV, Hepatitis C & STDs
• 3 hours in Clinical Supervision

TOC Chapter 116 requires LCDCs to complete an approved human trafficking prevention course for each renewal period.

• The standards, review process, and application guidelines for external entities to be considered as approved human trafficking courses for health care practitioners.
