District of Columbia Marriage and Family Therapist CE Requirements

District of Columbia MFTs are required to complete 30 hours of approved continuing education every 2 years.

Yes! District of Columbia MFTs may earn 15 hours through CE4Less.

CE4Less is approved by the American Psychological Board (APA) and the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) and NAADAC to provide continuing education.

District of Columbia MFTs must complete 15 contact hours by attending live or face to face courses. Check our live options here.

District of Columbia MFT licenses must be renewed every 2 years by the licensee’s birth month.

Each renewal period DC MFTs are required to complete:

• 6 hours of Ethics (See our courses in Ethics & Telemental Health and Ethics Boundary Issues)
• 2 hours of LGBTQ Culture Competency
  • Intimate Partner Violence in Culturally Diverse Groups and Special Populations (4 hours)
  • Affirmative Counseling for Transgender and Gender Diverse Clients (8 hours)
  • Evidence and Action to Support and Affirm LGBTQI+ Youth

• 3 hours or at least ten percent (10%) of their required total continuing education in the domains listed as Public Health Priorities:
  • 1. 1. Sexual and Reproductive Health
       2. Chronic Disease Management
       3. One Health
       4. Healthcare Professional Retention and Capacity Building
       5. Community and Patient Safety
