Minnesota Substance Abuse Counselor CE Requirements and Courses

Minnesota Alcohol and Drug Counselors are required to complete 40 hours of approved continuing education every 2 years.

Yes! There are no restrictions on the number of hours Minnesota Alcohol and Drug Counselors can complete through CE4Less – all 40 hours may be earned through CE4Less.

CE4Less is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA), Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB), National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC), and NAADAC for continuing education.

Minnesota Alcohol and Drug Counselor licenses must be renewed every 2 years by licensure date.

Each renewal Minnesota Alcohol and Drug Counselors must complete:

• 6 hours in Cultural Diversity
• 3 hours in Ethics (See our courses in Ethics & Telemental Health and Ethics Boundary Issues)
• 12 hours of training in Clinical and/or Ethical Supervision (Supervisor Requirements)

Additional requirements during first 4 years after initial license: Under Rule 4747.1100 Subp. 2, in the first four years licensees must obtain and document six clock hours each in Native American, Asian American, Deaf/Hard of Hearing, Chicano/Latino, Disability, African American issues.
