Washington Requirements for Social Work License Renewal
Washington Licensed Social Workers are required to complete 36 hours of approved continuing education every two years. Washington Licensed Social Worker Associates are required to complete 18 hours of approved continuing education every two years. How many hours of CE credit does Washington require for social workers?
Washington’s continuing education requirements for social workers vary based on the type of license held:
- Licensed Social Workers are required to complete 36 hours of approved continuing education every 2 years
- Licensed Social Work Associates are required to complete 18 hours of approved continuing education every year
Can I take my CEs from CE4Less?

What else do I need to know?
All Washington licensees must complete:
- 6 hours in ethics every 2 years (CE4Less offers a number of ethics courses that may be used towards satisfying this requirement, including our Ethics & Boundary Issues and Ethics & Telemental Health courses. See here for a full listing of our available ethics courses.)
- 2 hours in health equity every 4 years
- Culture and the Psychosocial Implications of Socioeconomic Position Part 1: Culture and Social Determinants of Health (4 hours)
- Culture and the Psychosocial Implications of Socioeconomic Position Part 2: Social Construction in Assessment and Treatment (4 hours)
- Culture and the Psychosocial Implications of Socioeconomic Position Part 3. Social Determinants of Health: Policy and Community Interventions (4 hours)
Every 6 years, Washington Social Workers (regardless of license type) must complete 6 hours in a state approved suicide prevention training. At this time CE4Less suicide course is not approved to meet this requirement.
