Texas Social Work CE Requirements
How many hours of CE credit does Texas require for social workers?
Texas social workers (LBSW, LCSW, LMSW, LMSW-AP) are required to complete 30 hours of approved continuing education every 2 years.
Can I take my CE from CE4Less?
Yes! There are no restrictions on the number of hours Texas social workers can complete through CE4Less – all 30 hours may be earned through CE4Less.
Texas accepts courses from any provider approved by the Association of Social Worker Boards (“ASWB”).  CE4Less, provider #1115, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the ASWB as an Approved Continuing Education (“ACE”) provider. See our Accreditations page for additional details.

What else do I need to know?
Texas social work licenses (LBSW, LCSW, LMSW, LMSW-AP) must be renewed every 2 years by the last day of the birth month of the licensee.
Each renewal cycle, Texas social workers (regardless of license type) must complete:
- 6 hours in Ethics (CE4Less offers a number of ethics courses that may be used to satisfy this requirement, including Ethics & Boundary Issues and Ethics & Telemental Health)
- 3 hours in Cultural Competency or Diversity (check out this course in Intimate Partner Violence in Culturally Diverse Groups & Special Populations or our 3-part series on Culture & the Psychosocial Implications of Socioeconomic Position)
Hours earned in excess of the minimums above may be applied towards the overall CE requirement.
Social workers who provide direct patient care are required to complete an HHSC-approved course in human trafficking (CE4Less does not currently offer an HHSC-approved human trafficking course).
Social workers who have supervisory authority are required to complete 6 hours in Supervision for each renewal. CE4Less offers a number of supervision courses that may be used to satisfy this requirement. Check out our Supervision: A Guide for Mental Health Professionals course, or see our full listing of available supervision courses and select the course(s) that best fit your interests and practice areas.
For more information, please contact the Texas State Board of Social Workers Examiners at (512) 305-7700, see their website (available here) for additional information about your license or renewal requirements, or see Texas’ rules and regulations relating to social work licensure and continuing education.
