How many hours of CE credit does Virginia require for social workers?
Virginia’s CE requirements for social workers vary based on the type of license held:
- LCSWs are required to complete 30 hours of approved continuing education every 2 years
- LBSWs and LMSWs are required to complete 15 hours of approved continuing education every 2 years
Can I take my CEs from CE4Less?

What else do I need to know?
Virginia social work licenses (LCSW, LMSW, and LBSW) must be renewed by June 30 of each even year.
Each renewal cycle, Virginia LCSWs are required to complete 6 hours in Ethics, while Virginia LMSWs and LBSWs are required to complete 3 hours in Ethics.
