Maryland Requirements for Social Work License Renewal
Maryland LCSWs are required to complete 40 hours of approved continuing education every two years. Maryland LBSWs are required to complete 30 hours of approved continuing education every two years. How many hours of CE credit does Maryland require for social workers?
Maryland social workers are required to complete either 30 (LBSW) or 40 (LCSW licenses) hours of approved continuing education every 2 years.
Can I take my CEs from CE4Less?
Yes! Maryland LCSWs (and LCSW-Cs) can complete up to 20 hours of the total CE requirement during their 2-year licensing period through home-study courses.
Maryland LBSWs can complete up to 15 hours through home-study courses for each renewal.
Maryland accepts courses from any provider approved by the Association of State Social Worker Boards (“ASWB”). CE4Less, provider #1115, is approved by the ASWB to offer social work continuing education. Maryland accepts our courses for CE credit. CE4Less’ courses count for Category II credit.

What else do I need to know?
Maryland social work licenses must be renewed by October 31st of the year in which they expire.
All Maryland social workers (LCSW, LCSW-C, and LBSW) must complete at least 3 hours in ethics education, including boundary issues, during each 2-year licensing period.
