Washington D.C. Psychologist CE Requirements
How many hours of CE credit does Washington D.C. require for psychologists?
Psychologists licensed in Washington D.C. are required to complete 30 hours of approved continuing education every 2 years.
Can I take my CEs from CE4Less?
Yes! Psychologists licensed in Washington D.C. can complete up to 15 hours of the total CE requirement during their 2-year licensing period through courses, such as CE4Less’, that are presented asynchronously (i.e., not live).
Washington D.C. accepts courses from any provider approved by the American Psychological Association (“APA”). CE4Less is approved by the APA to sponsor continuing education for psychologists, and Washington D.C. accepts our courses for CE credit.

What else do I need to know?
Washington D.C. psychologist licenses must be renewed by December 31st of each odd year. Starting in September 2024, licenses must be renewed by the last day of the birth month of the license holder.
Each renewal cycle, Washington D.C. psychologists must complete:
- 3 hours in Ethics (CE4Less offers a number of other courses that can be used to satisfy this requirement, including Ethics & Telemental Health and Ethics & Boundary Issues)
- 2 hours of LGBTQ
- 3 of the total required continuing education shall be in Public Health Priorities and include the following:
- Responsible opioid prescribing and effective pain management
- Nutrition and obesity prevention
- Identifying and reporting abuse (child and adult), neglect (child and adult), human trafficking, and domestic violence
- Sexual health (including taking sexual history, discussing sexual experiences with patients, sexually transmitted diseases (including HIV/AIDS), HPV vaccines, connections to cancer, latent tuberculosis, safe sex, and birth control)
- Ethics and appropriate patient interactions (i.e. boundaries, patient privacy, and communications including telehealth)
- Smoking, vaping, and tobacco (including dangers, smoking cessation, and non-smoke tobacco products)
- Preparing your patients for an emergency and handling vulnerable populations in an emergency
- Identifying impairment (physical or mental) in patients and providers (including complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Occupational Safety and Health Act)
- Vaccinations (including legal requirements and appropriate exemptions)
- Implicit bias, cultural competence and Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) in health and health care.
