Utah Social Work CE Requirements

Utah’s social work continuing education requirements vary based on the type of license held:

• LCSWs are required to complete 40 hours of approved continuing education every 2 years
• CSWs and SSWs are required to complete 20 hours of approved continuing education every 2 years

Yes! Utah social workers can complete a portion of the total CE requirement during their 2-year licensing period through CE4Less courses.

• LCSWs may complete up to 15 hours of the total 40-hour requirement through distance learning
• CSWs and SSWs may complete up to 8 hours of the total 20-hours requirement through distance learning

Utah accepts courses from any provider approved by the Association of Social Worker Boards (“ASWB”).  CE4Less, provider #1115, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the ASWB as an Approved Continuing Education (“ACE”) provider. See our Accreditations page for additional details.

Utah accepts our courses for CE credit.  CE4Less’ courses count as distance learning.

Utah social work licenses (LCSW, CSW, and SSW) must be renewed by September 30 of each even year.

Each renewal cycle, Utah social workers (regardless of license type) must complete:

• 6 hours in Ethics (CE4Less offers a number of ethics courses that may be used to satisfy this requirement, including Ethics & Boundary Issues and Ethics & Telemental Health)
• 2 hours in Suicide Prevention (CE4Less offers a comprehensive course in Suicide: Assessment, Treatment, & Management that may be used to satisfy this requirement)

Hours earned in excess of the minimums listed above may be applied toward the overall CE requirement.
