North Carolina Substance Abuse Counselor CE Requirements and Courses

North Carolina Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors (CADC, PS, and CCJP) are required to complete 60 hours of approved continuing education every 2-year period.

LCAS are required to complete 40 hours of continuing education every 2-year period.

Yes! There are no restrictions on the number of hours North Carolina Alcohol and Drug Counselors can complete through CE4Less – all 60 hours may be earned through CE4Less.

CE4Less is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA), National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC), and NAADAC.

Each renewal period North Carolina Alcohol and Drug Counselors must complete: (at least 30 of these hours must be SUD specific, options available here)

• 3 hours of HIV/AIDS/STD/BBP
• 3 hours of special topics: Nicotine Dependence, Substance Abuse and Veterans, Substance Abuse Elderly, Psychopathology, and/or Evidence Based Treatment Approaches.
